Canada to OK Valent's ethaboxam seed treatment
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) proposes to approve Sumitomo Chemical subsidiary Valent USA Corporation's fungicidal seed treatment, Intego Solo (ethaboxam), for use on cereals, legume vegetables and oilseed crops. It is for the control or suppression of major seed and seedling diseases caused by oomycete fungi. Ethaboxam is a systemic fungicide with a new mode of action, the PMRA notes. It will provide growers with a valuable alternative to metalaxyl, for which resistance is well documented on various crops, the Agency adds. The US EPA proposed the approval of Valent's ethaboxam-based seed treatment, AP2, late last year (Agrow No 679, p 27). The Canadian registration decision is open to public comment until June 30th.
