Dow/Sigma-Alpha reagent supply deal
Dow AgroSciences has entered into an exclusive agreement with the US Sigma-Alpha Corporation (St Louis, Missouri) for the latter to manufacture and supply zinc finger nuclease (ZFN) reagents for use with Dow's Exzact Precision Technology. That is a multi-technology platform that enables targeted genome modification in plants. A key component is the zinc finger technology that Dow licensed from Sangamo Biosciences in 2008 (Agrow No 546, p 3). The deal with Sigma-Alpha provides "much-needed additional capacity and a competitive cost position for ZFN reagents", says Dow's vice-president of research and development, Dr Daniel Kittle. "This is critical as the Exzact Precision Technology is deployed in product development," he adds.
