Canada collects over 5 m containers in 2013
Nearly 5.2 million empty pesticide and fertiliser containers were returned to collection sites throughout Canada in 2013, according to the industry's CleanFarms programme. A notable milestone during the year was the collection of over 101 million containers since the programme started in 1989, the organisation points out. Some 65% of containers were returned through the programme in 2012 but a figure was not available when the annual report for 2013 was compiled. The volume of containers collected last year amounted to nearly 2 tonnes. In addition, nearly 228 tonnes of bulk containers (>23 litres) were collected.
