EFSA mulls RNAi assessment methods
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is considering adaptations to its risk assessment methods in preparation for the new generation of plants that have been genetically modified using RNA interference (RNAi) technology. RNAi-based crops and pesticides are under development by a number of companies. The EFSA is holding a workshop on the issue in June, to be attended by experts from across the world. It will focus on ways to refine current GMO risk assessment methods to detect unintended effects arising from the technology.
