Brazilian R&D lagging on govt discouragement

Brazil's agrochemical industry blames government's lack of encouragement for a malaise in national research and development. The agrochemical industry association, the Andef’s former president of the board, João Lammel, has complained to newspaper Valor Economico in an interview that the national development bank funds towards R&D of R$5,000 million (US$2,257 million at the current rate) in 2013 do not cover risk costs, while an unstable regulatory environment, an often ideological hostility towards technological developments, and excessive bureaucracy stifles development. He cites the example of his own industry: agrochemicals.
