April 2014 Patent Watch
In April, the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) published a total of 15 applications in the field of new agrochemicals or biopesticides from 13 companies, one research institute and a government agency. Syngenta was the most prolific applicant having four applications, followed by Bayer CropScience with two. BASF, Kureha (Japan), the USDA, SDS Biotech (Japan), Riken (Japan), Marrone Bio Innovations (US), Mitsui Chemicals Agro, DuPont and Biotelliga (New Zealand), each had one application. Insecticides were the most popular this month, with five applications, followed by multi-purpose pesticides (four), herbicides (three) and fungicides (three).
