Italy grants 120-day OK to Syngenta’s Bion
Italy has granted a 120-day emergency approval to Syngenta’s disease resistance activator, Bion 50 (acibenzolar-S-methyl), for the second consecutive year. It is a water-dispersible granule formulation for the control of kiwifruit canker (Pseudomonas syringae pv actinidiae). Bion is recommended for use as part of an IPM programme. The approval runs until August 28th. The company continues tests towards a complete registration. The product has long been used to control bacterial diseases in peaches and tomatoes, and is applied to control the spread of fireblight (Erwinia amylovora) in pome fruit, the company adds.
