EU to set purity level for methyl nonyl ketone
European Commission proposals to set a minimum purity level for the repellent, methyl nonyl ketone, at 985 g/kg have been voted through by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health. The planned amendment to the active ingredient’s EU agrochemical approval follows analysis of confirmatory data on the specification of the ai. Such data had been requested in 2012, with a submission deadline of April 2013 (Agrow No 645, p 11). Methyl nonyl ketone originally gained EU re-registration in 2009 under a faster procedure for low-risk substances. The new purity level requires a formal decision by the Commission before coming into force.
