EU co-existence checks hampered by lack of GM crops

An attempt by the European Coexistence Bureau (ECoB) to monitor the efficiency of co-existence measures for genetically modified and non-GM maize in the EU has been thwarted by the low levels of commercial crops. The ECoB’s latest report was intended as a follow-up to its best practice guidelines issued for maize in 2010 (Agrow No 601, p 10). But its survey of member states shows that most have limited experience in practical terms, due to the lack of commercial cultivation, the Bureau says.
