Monsanto to double earnings in five years
Monsanto plans to more than double its earnings per share (EPS) over the next five years. The target reflects the management's confidence in the growth potential for its core business and the "transformational potential in new platforms", the company says. The largest contributor to growth is expected to be Monsanto's established seed and traits business, which is anticipated to provide over $4,000 million in gross profit growth by the end of fiscal 2019. The company also expects to make strong progress with new platforms, including the Climate Corporation business that it acquired last year (Agrow No 676, p 2). Monsanto points to sustained EPS growth in the "mid-teens" percent on a revenue base of some $15,000 million.
