US approval for Gowan biopesticide
The US agrochemical company, Gowan (Yuma, Arizona), has received US approval for the biopesticide, Captiva, for the control of thrips and spider mites on a range of specialty crops. It is the first product to be approved under a partnership with the Colombian bioproducts company, EcoFlora (Rionegro). The companies formed a joint venture in 2011 to develop, register and market EcoFlora's plant extract-based biopesticides (Agrow No 624, p 2). Captiva is undergoing state registrations ahead of the 2014/15 season.
