Brazil Embrapa develops GM lettuces
The Brazilian agricultural research corporation, the Embrapa, is preparing to request approval for a genetically modified lettuce, media report. It anticipates market launch of the folic acid enhancing product by 2021. Field test approvals were granted last year, results showing a 15 times increase of the nutrient in the plant. The corporation was granted approval for its GM kidney bean three years ago (Agrow No 624, p 19).
