Valent opens biorational products plant
Sumitomo Chemical’s US biopesticide and “biorational” products subsidiary, Valent BioSciences (Libertyville, Illinois), has opened its first full-scale facility devoted entirely to biorational products. The $146 million US plant is located on a 73-acre (30 ha) site in Osage, Iowa. The 130,000 sq ft (12,077 m) plant is the largest purpose-built biorationals facility in the world, the company claims. It will serve as the manufacturing and quality control centre for Valent’s portfolio of fermentation products. Valent executive vice president and COO Ted Melnik rates the opening as a landmark for Valent and the biorational segment.
