Vietnam lacks fresh veg EU export agchem controls

Vietnam’s efforts to strengthen pre-export controls on pesticide residues in fresh vegetables and herbs, in particular chilli peppers and basil bound for the EU are inadequate, the European Commission’s Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) says. In particular, the Office notes that a limited analytical scope for assessing residues at its official laboratories among other weaknesses with regard to internal quality procedures cannot ensure the national authorities’ reliability. That is despite the availability of modern equipment, good facilities and experienced staff, it says.
