Novartis launches Plenum in UK
Novartis has launched its pyridine azomethine insecticide, Plenum (pymetrozine), for use on potatoes in the UK. Plenum has a novel mode of action and is effective against all types of aphid and harmless to beneficial insects such as ladybirds. It acts by inhibiting the feeding mechanism. It is hoped that Plenum will take a "significant niche" in the UK aphicide market, says Michael Tait, field crops manager at Novartis UK. The company recommends two applications of 100-150g ai/ha for aphid control followed by an insecticide with an alternative mode of action.
