Mexico/US/Guatemala ratify Moscamed deal
The Mexican, US and Guatemalan sterile fly Moscamed programme authorities have ratified a co-operation deal. Parties met this month to verify progress achieved on the joint Mediterranean fruit flies (Ceratitis capitata) eradication programme that was agreed earlier this year (Agrow No 684, p 17). A financial and technical plan was approved for 2015 that prioritises the protection of fruit fly-free areas in the three countries. The co-operation includes the development and harmonisation of organisational structures and procedural manuals. The Moscamed Commission has sterile fly production facilities in Guatemala and Mexico among other countries.
