Canada province to act on neonicotinoids
Farmers in the Canadian province of Ontario are concerned about plans by the new government to restrict the use of neonicotinoid insecticides to protect bees. Grain Farmers of Ontario is "extremely disappointed" that Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal has proposed the move while measures to mitigate risks to bees are still being evaluated. "The results of ongoing research projects and in-field practices will be paramount in determining any future regulatory decisions," the commodity group points out. "It is counter-intuitive to implement a regulatory change without the completion of this research and trials."
