EU outlines options for ED strategy

The European Commission has outlined various options that could be considered as part of a strategy for dealing with potential endocrine disruptors (EDs) in the regulation of agrochemicals and biocides. The options are in a “roadmap” produced in preparation for the Commission’s planned impact assessment on the issue. The roadmap outlines four options for identification criteria, and a further three options for approaches to regulatory decision making. In June, the Commission said that a public consultation would be held in the near future (Agrow No 691, p 7). This was in response to increasing pressure to accelerate work on the strategy, after the deadline for establishing scientific criteria for identifying potential EDs was missed at the end of 2013.
