EcoPesticides gains encapsulation technology
The US biopesticide company, EcoPesticides (Albuquerque, New Mexico), has acquired an exclusive global licence to encapsulation technology from the University of New Mexico's technology transfer and development organisation, STC.UNM. The patent-pending formulation and delivery system extends the effectiveness of biopesticides by encapsulating bacteria and fungi in a biopolymer to provide protection from ultra-violet rays and heat, EcoPesticides points out. The company is targeting the control of rangeland and crop pests such as locusts and grasshoppers with the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. EcoPesticides was set up in 2013 using technology developed at the University of Mexico and licensed through STC.UNM.
