Costa Rican agchem approval queue tops 1,000

A mere ten pesticides have been approved in the past seven years in Costa Rica, leading to a build-up of almost 1,130 pesticides in the approval and reauthorisation processes, national media report. The accumulation has occurred since a change in the regulatory process was issued in 2007 (Agrow No 513, p 14), national newspaper la Nacion reports. It cites figures from the national chamber of generic agricultural inputs and products, showing that 600 of the products that were in the re-approval pipeline at the time of the modification remain there.
