Chinese paraquat prices down as controls enacted

China has revoked registrations and production licences for paraquat herbicide aqueous formulations, and banned production of such formulations. The ban took effect on July 1st. The rise in paraquat prices seen in the first quarter (Agrow No 687, p 25) did not continue despite the looming ban, with March prices of Yuan 94,000 ($15,131 at the current rate)/tonne (up 20.1% on January) falling 10% to Yuan 84,600 ($13,618)/tonne by the end of May, reports the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA). Exports of paraquat mother liquid saw historical highs in February, before falling 2% to $4,600/tonne in May.
