Nigeria to adopt GMOs

Nigeria is to adopt genetically modified crops, national media report. They cite the government body, the national agricultural biotechnology development agency, Nabda. The country has established a number of regulatory instruments including biosafety application administration guidelines, a biosafety bill, biosafety containment facility guidelines, accreditation of institute application forms, certification of biosafety containment facility forms, and a confined field trial monitoring and inspection manual, Nabda director general Professor Lucy Ogbadu says. It has also built a biosafety laboratory for GMO detection and analysis, she adds. However, passage of the biosafety bill remains pending.
