Spanish agchem market up 14% in 2013
The Spanish crop protection market rebounded to a record level in 2013. Sales of all products rose by 13.6% to €734 million ($996 million at the current rate). That followed four years with an annual market level of €600-700 million ($814-950 million) including a dip in sales in 2012. The pesticide market experienced an “exceptional” year in 2013, the Spanish agrochemical industry association, the Aepla, says. Growers suffered from drought and an uncertain economy in 2012, but the scenario was transformed into one of “reasonable” conditions last year. Commodity price expectations improved and abundant rains resulted in double-digit market growth.
