Argentine uni develops online ecotoxicty calculator
The Argentine University of Buenos Aires has developed a pesticide ecotoxicity risk evaluation system, Ripest. It is available free online for use by agronomists and growers. Users can enter pesticide brand names and intended application rates onto the system, and get risk estimates associated with their toxicity to insects and mammals. The database contains data on 3,011 formulated products based on 428 active ingredients or combinations thereof. The developers say that the model provides substantially greater information than product labels, as it estimates risk associated with quantity of pesticide applied.
