Brazil OKs agchem marketing deals
The Brazilian competition authority, the Cade, has approved two deals in the pesticide sector. It has authorised without restrictions the agreement between the Brazilian company, Iharabras (Sorocaba), and Sumitomo Corporation subsidiary Summit Agro for the companies to share rights to the strobilurin fungicide, metominostrobin, in Brazil. Summit Agro International acquired metominostrobin from Bayer CropScience earlier this year (Agrow No 686, p 2). Summit reportedly owns a 22% stake in Iharabras. The fungicide is particularly effective against Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi), a major disease in Brazil.
