New EU purity level for methyl nonyl ketone

The European Commission has set a minimum purity level of 985 g/kg for the repellent, methyl nonyl ketone. EU member states have to ensure that existing products conform to this requirement by January 3rd 2015. Any grace period granted to use up existing stocks must expire by January 3rd 2016. Methyl nonyl ketone originally gained EU re-registration in 2009 and the amendment follows analysis of confirmatory data on the specification of the active ingredient. The change was approved by the EU regulatory committee earlier this year (Agrow No 690, p 8).
