Agchem container recycling hitting record levels in Brazil
Brazilian recycling and disposal of empty pesticide containers rose by some 6.5% in the first half of 2014 compared with the same period last year. It stood at 22,756.8 tonnes, according to the agrochemical container disposal organisation, the inpEV. Collections inched higher in the larger pesticide-using states, while some of the smaller states saw much larger rises. More reception centres have been set up in the smaller states while recycling has been well established in states such as Mato Grosso, Parana and Sao Paulo. There was growth of over 50% in Rondonia and Tocantins, while recycling doubled in Piaui and Pernambuco. Recycling in the 12 months to the end of June amounted to 41,780 tonnes, a rise of 3.3% on the record calendar year of 2013 (Agrow No 681, p 17).
