Brazilian enterprises open wasp factory
A factory for the production of parasitoid wasps as biological control agents has opened this month in Brazil. The Rio Grande association of rural assistance enterprises, the Emater/Ascar, along with the state’s Rural Development Secretary, and the agricultural research corporation for maize and sorghum, the Embrapa Milho e Sorgo, have inaugurated the plant for the production of Trichogramma spp. The facility will have an annual production to cover 7,000 ha of crops. It is located at the Emater/Ascar’s training centre, while Embrapa owns the technology.
