Colombia agency wants biopesticides on the market
Colombian authorities are focusing registration preparations on biopesticides. The Ministry of Agriculture’s agricultural board of trade, the ICA, is offering advice and guidance to growers and companies to register fungicides and insecticides of “organic origin” for the control of pests and diseases on various crops. The move is motivated by the demands of international markets and gaining wider access to them. The ICA’s office in Risaralda province has inspected over 120 warehouses this year to check conformity to regulations on GAP and the demands of international markets. Its regional manager, Claudia Castano, notes its present focus. “The ICA is promoting the production of biological inputs that fulfil the demands of markets on the admission of products that do not present a risk to human health and have been obtained under regulations covering GAP.” The regional office has recently approved a biological fertiliser, and seeks to add pesticides to its approvals.
