Australia launches seed treatment stewardship guide
The Australian industry association, CropLife Australia, has launched a stewardship programme to encourage the responsible use of seed treatments to help protect pollinators. The Seed Treatment Stewardship Strategy is the first best management practice guide to made available under CropLife's Pollinator Protection Initiative. It outlines measures to reduce potential risks from the dust generated during the handling and planting of seed and provides guidance on minimising the unintended movement of insecticides and fungicides. The support of several state farming organisations and producer groups will ensure that the guidance is readily available to farmers across Australia, CropLife points out.
