Tebuconazole gains EU approval for PGR use

The European Commission has granted an expansion of the EU approval of the fungicide, tebuconazole, to use as a plant growth regulator. Bayer CropScience applied for use to control oilseed rape lodging (Agrow No 694, p 17). Authorisation for the new use becomes effective on September 15th 2014. Separately, the Commission has added an extra condition to the active ingredient’s EU approval for all uses. When approving tebuconazole-based products, member states must consider the potential for ground water contamination, particularly by the metabolite, 1,2,4-triazole. The amendment follows an EU evaluation of data on existing fungicide uses (Agrow ibid).
