ECHA urges pre-submission of biocide product applications

Companies planning to apply for the new EU-wide authorisation of formulated biocide products are “strongly advised” to make a pre-submission to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) at the start of their application process, says the Agency. It would allow member states and the European Commission to indicate any concerns that the company should be aware of before submitting its application, it explains. The new centralised authorisation system for products, similar to that already in operation for active ingredients, was introduced with the EU biocidal products Regulation (528/2012). Some non-crop pesticides are excluded from the system, but it is open to products such as insecticides/acaricides.
