Brazil withdraws endosulfan from market
Brazil has withdrawn the organochlorine insecticide/acaricide, endosulfan, from the market. The competent authorities agreed a three-year phase-out four years ago (Agrow No 596, p 15). The national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, issued Resolution 2908 in August, cancelling its registration or monografia of the active ingredient. Endosulfan was among 14 ais the Anvisa was to reassess on toxicology issues (Agrow passim). Six of the ais have yet to be reassessed.
