Monsanto seeks Australasia OK for SmartStax Pro
Monsanto has applied to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) for the approval of food derived from its genetically modified herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant SmartStax Pro (MON87411) maize. It expresses a double-stranded RNA transcript and the Bt Cry3Bb1 toxin for the control of corn rootworms (Diabrotica spp). The company has applied for USDA deregulation and EPA approval (Agrow No 694, p 23). FSANZ expects to complete its assessment by May 2015.
