New EU approval conditions for two biopesticides

The European Commission has confirmed amendments to the EU approval conditions for two biopesticides: the bioinsecticide, Cydia pomonella granulovirus, and the attractant, straight chain lepidopteran pheromones. The changes reflect the completion of detailed reviews by the European Food Safety Authority (Agrow No 694, p 17). For C pomonella granulovirus, a minimum purity level has been set and the maximum level of contaminating micro-organisms has been adjusted. The change is effective from September 2nd. For straight chain lepidopteran pheromones, there comes a requirement for the applicant to submit confirmatory information by: December 31st 2015 on the genotoxic profile of aldehyde group compounds; and December 31st 2016 on the exposure of humans and the environment resulting from the application of the product, compared with natural background levels of the pheromones.
