Mexico issues draft agchem MRL bill
Mexican competent authorities have issued draft legislation to set pesticide maximum residue limits (MRLs). The legislation was designed between the Ministries of Agriculture, the Sagarpa, and of Health’s toxicology authority, the Cofepris. The draft was issued in the official gazette last month, and seeks to establish technical guidelines to set and review the approval of MRLs for agrochemical registrations. The MRL guidelines have been internationally established to facilitate trade, the Sagarpa notes. Ministry of Agriculture’s food quality and health service the Senasica-approved laboratories are to be employed for authorisation and conformity assessment procedures. The proposal includes a 60-day public comment period from August 19th.
