Valent gains US approval for Fierce XLT

Sumitomo Chemical's US-based subsidiary, Valent USA Corporation (Walnut Creek, California), has received US approval for a pre-emergence soybean herbicide based on established active ingredients. Fierce XLT (Kumiai Chemical's pyroxasulfone + flumioxazin + chlorimuron-ethyl) offers the "broadest spectrum" control of broadleaf weeds and grasses, and the longest residual control on the market, the company points out. "With three modes of action and up to eight weeks of control, Fierce XLT is an extremely important tool for soybean growers fighting tough, yield-robbing weeds like Palmer amaranth [Amaranthus palmeri] and waterhemp [Amaranthus spp]," says product development manager Dr John Pawlak. It is due to be introduced in 2015. Valent received US approval for Fierce (pyroxasulfone + flumioxazin) on soybeans last year (Agrow No 659, p 23).
