S&W Seed to form joint venture with Bioceres
The US alfalfa seed company, S&W Seed (Five Points, California), is to form a joint venture with the Argentine agricultural biotechnology consortium, Bioceres, to develop and commercialise biotechnology enhanced alfalfa varieties. The joint venture will combine S&W's premium genetics with Bioceres' "next-generation" R&D capabilities, the companies point out. It will utilise the partners' distribution capabilities and relationships to sell S&W's elite alfalfa varieties in Argentina to dealers and farmers. Initially focusing on conventional varieties, the venture will establish a sales channel for genetically modified lines once they have been approved.
