All change for EU Health directorate
The European Commission’s Health and Consumers Directorate General (DG SANCO), which regulates agrochemicals and genetically modified crops, is set for a change in chief and structure later this year. Vytenis Andriukaitis, former Health Minister of Lithuania, has been designated as the EU Health Commissioner by Commission President-elect Jean-Claude Juncker. In addition, DG SANCO is set to gain responsibility for biocides, including non-crop pesticides, under plans outlined by Mr Juncker in September. All of the designated commissioners, along with the new structure, require approval by the European Parliament before taking up their posts in November.
