Colorado citizen panel narrowly endorses GMO labeling initiative

A 20-member panel of Colorado citizens voted Wednesday 11-9 to recommend passage of a ballot initiative to require labelling of GMO foods, a narrow endorsement that suggests the November vote on the measure will be a close one. Proposition 105 calls on Colorado to impose a regime by July 2016, requiring labeling of most raw and packaged foods that contain GM ingredients. It would exempt alcohol and products made from animals that eat GM feed. Colorado advocates are bullish on their prospects and say independent polling shows 75% of registered voters in the state support mandatory GM food labeling.
