China OKs ten GMOs for import
China approved ten genetically modified crops for import last month, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture. They included three soybean and five maize traits that are sold and used in Brazil. The GM soybeans included: Bayer CropScience’s herbicide-tolerant LibertyLink (A2704-12), Monsanto’s herbicide-tolerant Roundup Ready 2 Yield (MON89788) and DuPont Pioneer’s altered content and herbicide-tolerant Plenish (305423) soybeans. The approvals also cover five maize products: Monsanto’s herbicide-tolerant Roundup Ready 2 (NK603), its insect-resistant YieldGard VT Rootworm (MON88017), and its stacked herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant VT Pro (MON89034) maize; and Syngenta’s herbicide-tolerant Agrisure GT (GA21), and its insect-resistant Agrisure RW (MIR604) maize. This is a “highly current theme” in bilateral trade discussions, and fundamental to the flow of goods between the countries, the Brazilian Ministry notes.
