Australia mulls GM wheat test
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has received an application from Murdoch University (Perth, Western Australia) to carry out a small scale field test of genetically modified wheat. The wheat has been modified with the Dx5 and Dy10 genes from wheat and a hybrid of these genes for improved grain quality. The University plans to carry out the 600 m2 test in the area of Katanning, Western Australia between May 2015 and December 2017. The OGTR expects to issue a risk assessment and management plan in December.
