Monsanto widens pest research fund
Monsanto has committed a further $3 million to fund research on insect pest management. It will make awards of up to $250,000 per year for up to three years to fund research projects. Researchers have been invited to submit proposals for: sustainable pest management; development of predictive models for developing resistance; biochemical, genetic and molecular characterisation of pest resistance to control methods; facilitation of multi-year surveys of US insect pest populations; and farmer education and training on insect management. The scheme extends a programme launched two years ago to fund research on corn rootworms (Diabrotica spp). The company pledged a further $3 million to that programme last year.
