Australia extends dimethoate suspension
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has extended the suspension of the use of the organophosphate insecticide, dimethoate, on many horticultural crops for another year. The APVMA imposed the suspension because of dietary risk concerns in October 2011. It extended the suspension in 2012 and 2013. The latest extension runs until October 5th 2015. The dietary exposure concerns that formed the basis of the original suspension have not altered for 13 listed products, the APVMA notes.
