Brazil Bahia state court OKs emamectin use on earworms
Brazilian state Bahia’s Court of Justice has approved the sale and use of emamectin benzoate insecticide for the control of earworms (Helicoverpa armigera). The decision should overturn a move of the public prosecutor’s office last year to ban the insecticide’s use in the state. It launched an action last year to impound 181 tonnes of the active ingredient. The state government’s agriculture authority, the Adab, imported the insecticide in April 2013 for use in 2014 and 2015 under a state of emergency it had declared. But the courts subsequently annulled the emergency use approval.
