Bayer debuts new formulation herbicide in Guatemala
Bayer CropScience has launched a new suspension concentrate formulation of its traditional Merlin herbicide in Guatemala. Merlin Total combines the established isoxaflutole with indaziflam. It is a pre-emergent herbicide for use on sugar cane for the control of grassy and broad-leaved weeds. The product brings a “flexible and efficient” control, offering up to 120 days residual action, and allowing lower application rates, Bayer notes. It can be mixed with post-emergent herbicides, the company adds. Guatemala is Latin America’s second major exporter of cane on a 260,000 ha area of the crop, the company notes. Bayer gained its first approval for indaziflam in the US in 2010 as Specticle. It was launched in Chile as Alion the following year.
