EU agric industry calls again for GMO approvals

European grain and feed industry organisations have once again urged the European Commission to stop the delay in authorising imports of new lines of genetically modified crops.  In their third statement since July, the groups warn of a “suicidal situation for European growth” as food and feed business operators face possible disruption to supplies of soybeans, maize and other protein-rich products. “Regardless of whether they are genetically modified or not, consignments of grain imported into the EU could be halted at the borders if the authorisation process is postponed.”  This will trigger uncertainty about supplies and price hikes, the groups add.
