Bayer seeks Poncho Votivo import to New Zealand
Bayer CropScience has applied to the New Zealand Environmental Protection Authority to import its insecticide/nematicide, Poncho Votivo (clothianidin 502 g/litre + Bacillus firmus 102 g/litre), for use as a seed treatment on wheat, maize, forage brassicas and grass. The product offers "very good" control of insect pests in a range of crops, with the B firmus component providing additional protection against nematodes, the company points out. It has a reduced amount of clothianidin than Poncho, which is already approved for use in New Zealand, and is expected to trigger fewer hazard classifications. The application is open to public comment until November 27th.
