USDA deregulates Monsanto's MON87751 soybeans
The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has extended the deregulation of Monsanto's genetically modified insect-resistant MON87701 soybeans to insect-resistant MON87751 soybeans. Both lines are resistant to lepidopteran pests. MON87751, which produces the Bt Cry1A.105 and Cry2Ab2 toxins, differs in conferring greater resistance to fall armyworms (Spodoptera frugiperda) than MON87701, which produces the Cry1Ac toxin. The APHIS concludes that MON87751 soybeans are unlikely to pose a plant pest risk and issued a finding of no significant impact. It made a preliminary decision to extend the deregulation in August.
