US approval for BASF's Xanthion fungicide
BASF has received US approval for the fungicide, Xanthion, for in-furrow use on maize. It is the first such product to combine a chemical fungicide with a biofungicide, BASF points out. Xanthion comprises the strobilurin fungicide, pyraclostrobin (trade-marked as F500), and the former Becker Underwood biofungicide, Integral (Bacillus subtilis strain MBI 600). BASF acquired Becker Underwood in late 2012. Xanthion controls soil-borne diseases, provides improved cold tolerance and promotes seedling growth, BASF notes. It will be available for the 2015 season.
